Pathway to Certification

FOUNDATIONS 1: Consent and Intimacy in Performance
This foundational course is designed for all who are interested in learning how to integrate consent based practices into their productions, theatres, and schools. This course covers: Consent, Power Dynamics, and basic approach to intimate scenes.
"Foundations 1: Consent and Intimacy in Performance" can be taken whether or not you intend to pursue certification, will be held online and is a pre-requisite for our Foundations 2 course.
ICC will run multiple Foundations 1 courses, with our first on June 14/15, 2025 - at 1pm EST. There will be another Foundations 1 course running in July, and then again in August.
Registration for Foundations 1 will open in May 2025.

FOUNDATIONS 2: From theory to practice
This is an in-person workshop that puts consent practices on their feet. This course is designed for actors, directors, educators, intimacy professionals, and anyone looking to practice their physical and verbal consent skills.
This workshop will be held in multiple cities across Canada, and is a pre-requisite for moving along our Pathway to Certification to the Advanced Professional Training program.
ICC will be running "Foundations 2: From Theory to Practice" in Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto in September 2025.
Registration for Foundations 2 will open in August 2025.

ADVANCED PROFESSIONAL TRAINING
In this course, candidates transition from learning foundational ideas to the specific hands-on details of the day-to-day role of working as an Intimacy Coordinator.
This program consists of 12-weeks of online training and two in-person weekend workshops held in Toronto. This Accreditation program is recognized by SAG/AFTRA.
Admission into the APT program with ICC is by application only. Application details are found below.
ICC will begin accepting applications for the "Advanced Professional Training" program in September 2025.

APPRENTICESHIP
The Apprenticeship Program with ICC aims to provide hands-on support as you begin working professionally in the industry as an Intimacy Coordinator (IC).
The program offers 20 hours of one-on-one Mentorship with one of ICC's Certified Mentors, and gives the opportunity to shadow one of our senior ICs on-set.
Successful completion of our Apprenticeship Program results in certification with ICC.

PREREQUISITES
Please ensure you have all prerequisites before applying to ICC for the APT or Apprenticeship Programs

Completion both our FOUNDATIONS 1 and FOUNDATIONS 2 programs

Minimum of 300 hours, 5 years, or 15 show credits working on film & television sets, ideally in a Directorial, Choreography, or Coordinator position

Experience in movement instruction or coaching

Experience with in-person Acting workshops and/or training for Performers

Gender and Sexuality training
-
Anti-oppression training
-
Mental health first aid (and subsequent MHFA working with minors) training and background

Current legal ability to work in Canada

We are not currently accepting applications for our APT or Apprenticeship Programs.

Resume of related experience (ie: on set experience, movement coaching, advocacy etc.)

3 (Three) Letters of Recommendation from industry professionals in related industries

Letter of Intent: Outline your connection to intimacy work, the skills you bring, and your current challenges related to the work

Entrance exam: There will be a comprehension exam required for application into the Apprenticeship program with Intimacy Coordinators Canada. Exam will be issued upon receipt of application

Interviews will be held for the APT & Apprenticeship Programs with ICC

Applications for our Apprenticeship Program will open up in 2026.

ICC has high standards for acceptance into the APT and Apprenticeship training programs. In the case that these requirements (such as industry experience, or other training) are barriers to applicants due to race, ability, etc. ICC offers the opportunity for applicants to appeal the requirement by providing arguments for related skills, or life experience that qualify them for training.
